Indian Railways Boosts Amenities and Connectivity
Passengers on the Prayagraj Junction–Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction route are set to enjoy faster travel. Indian Railways has announced a major redevelopment of 12 stations along the corridor to improve facilities and passenger experience.
Redevelopment Alongside Third Line Construction
The redevelopment work is being carried out simultaneously with the construction of a third railway line. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity along the corridor and enable trains to operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph.
The stations selected for redevelopment include Bheerpur, Meja Road, Unchdeeh, Manda Road, Jigna, Gaipura, Birohi, and Sipura. Pahara, Dagmagpur, Kailhat, and Narayanpur Bazar are also part of the project.
Modern Station Buildings and Platforms
Under the plan, each station will receive a new building equipped with modern amenities. A dedicated platform for the upcoming third line will also be constructed at every station.
To improve accessibility, the station buildings will allow entry from both sides, reducing congestion during peak hours. Additionally, new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) are being built at several stations, while existing ones are being widened or upgraded.
Infrastructure Strengthening for Semi-High-Speed Trains
Officials stated that the Prayagraj–DDU stretch is being reinforced to support semi-high-speed train operations. Track upgrades and other infrastructure enhancements are already underway to ensure smoother and faster travel along the corridor.
Progress Achieved So Far
As part of the ongoing work, Indian Railways has already completed new station buildings and FOBs at Karchana and Mirzapur. These developments mark the first phase of the project. Consequently, they set the stage for broader redevelopment of all 12 stations along the route.
