Multiple Flyovers Under Construction to Ease Congestion 

Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC) plans to complete three major flyovers by December 2026 in East Nagpur.

Traffic pressure in the area has grown rapidly due to expanding residential neighbourhoods and increasing commercial activity. The projects are being executed by MahaRail under the supervision of its Managing Director, Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal. The aim is to strengthen the road network in eastern parts of the city.

Key Junctions Expected to See Reduced Congestion

The planned infrastructure is expected to ease traffic movement at major intersections including Wardhaman Nagar, Nandanvan, Hasanbag and Jagnade Square. Construction activity has currently resulted in heavy traffic congestion at several locations. However, MRIDC said several measures are being taken to maintain traffic flow during the works.

2.71 km IOCL–Nirmal Nagari Flyover

Among the projects, the 2.71-km-long IOCL–Nirmal Nagari flyover is one of the longest structures planned in the area. It will link Wardhaman Nagar near the IOCL petrol pump with Nirmal Nagari.

The flyover will include an additional ramp towards KDK College. The flyover has 77 spans and an 11-metre carriageway, expected to ease traffic pressure on the Wardhaman Nagar corridor.

Rajendra Nagar–Hasanbag Chowk Flyover

Another project involves a 924-metre-long flyover connecting Rajendra Nagar in Nandanvan with Hasanbag Chowk. Officials believe the structure will help organise traffic movement across densely populated residential areas and surrounding internal roads.

Twin Flyovers Planned at Jagnade Square

At Jagnade Square, authorities are building two elevated corridors as part of a major traffic improvement project. One corridor will link Reshimbagh Chowk with KDK College Square, while another will connect Bhande Plot Chowk and Telephone Exchange Chowk.

The square currently handles traffic from several localities in eastern Nagpur. Temporary traffic diversions had earlier been introduced around the junction during the flyover construction.

Azam Shah Chowk–Marwadi Chowk flyover

Apart from these projects, MahaRail is also constructing a flyover between Azam Shah Chowk and Marwadi Chowk. The 898-metre-long structure is scheduled for completion by December 2027 and is expected to strengthen connectivity in the area.

However, part of the work involving the merging of this flyover with the Dahi Bazaar railway overbridge has been paused. The halt follows guidelines issued by traffic police to prevent additional congestion. The work will resume once the Pachpaoli bridge becomes available as a diversion route.

Earlier Flyover Opening Brings Commuter Relief

Meanwhile, the Lakadganj police station–Wardhaman Nagar flyover opened on December 15 last year. It has already provided relief to commuters travelling through the area.
