Aims Brings Faster Commute on the 1,380 Km Expressway

The Kota Tunnel in Rajasthan’s Kota has been completed, marking a major step in the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project. The tunnel is expected to open next month. Consequently, travel time between Gurugram and Vadodara will drop from 20-22 to 10-12 hours, according to Jagran. The 1,380-kilometre expressway aims to enhance connectivity between the national capital and India’s commercial hub.

    Eight-Lane Greenfield Expressway

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is being built as an eight-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway across multiple phases. Starting at Alipur village near Sohna, it passes through key cities such as Alwar, Jaipur, and Kota. Environmental concerns have been carefully addressed, especially near the Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve. To protect wildlife, the 4.9-kilometre Koita Tunnel was constructed.

    Tunnel Designed to Protect Wildlife

The Koita Tunnel allows vehicles to pass underneath sensitive areas without disturbing the ecosystem. Its completion replaces the 25-kilometre winding roads near Kota, providing commuters with a smoother and faster journey.

    Project Progress and Upcoming Sections

The expressway is approaching full completion, with the Vadodara-to-Mumbai stretch expected by June. Once fully operational, the highway will significantly reduce travel time, boosting trade and commerce. The design also allows for future expansion to 12 lanes as traffic demands grow. It is expected to foster economic development in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Infrastructure for High Traffic and Speed

The expressway is built to handle large traffic volumes, currently averaging 25,000-30,000 vehicles daily. Vehicles will be able to travel at speeds up to 120 km/h. The infrastructure includes provisions for future upgrades, ensuring long-term utility as a major transport corridor.

    Key Cities and Regional Connectivity

The expressway connects Delhi, Gurugram, Alwar, Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Bhopal, Indore, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Surat. Improved connectivity along this route is expected to accelerate economic growth and benefit millions of commuters and businesses across these regions.
