Delhi’s Metro Network Set for Major Expansion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two key Delhi Metro corridors on March 8. These include Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur (pink line) and Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park (magenta line). The same day, he will lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Delhi Metro’s Phase-V(A) expansion. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed this on Thursday.

Metro Projects Cost Over ₹18,300 Crore

CM Rekha Gupta said the total expenditure on these projects exceeds ₹18,300 crore. She highlighted the broader benefits, stating, “These initiatives will play an important role in transforming the national capital into a truly Viksit Delhi. The expansion of the metro network will improve public transport, make daily travel easier for citizens, reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and help control pollution.”

The programme is scheduled at DDA Utsav Sthal-3, in front of Nirankari Mandal.

Pink Line Extension: Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur

The Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch covers 12.3 km and features eight elevated stations. This segment extends the existing Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar pink line. After completion, the line will stretch 71.5 km, making Delhi the first city in India with a fully operational Ring Metro.

    The new stations include:

    • Majlis Park
    • Burari
    • Jharoda Majra
    • Jagatpur–Wazirabad
    • Soorghat
    • Nanaksar–Sonia Vihar
    • Khajuri Khas
    • Bhajanpura
    • Yamuna Vihar
    • Maujpur–Babarpur

Magenta Line Extension: Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park

The Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor adds 9.92 km and seven elevated stations to the magenta line, which is an extension of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park segment. With this addition, the line’s total length will reach around 49 km.

    Stations along this section are:

    • Deepali Chowk
    • Madhuban Chowk
    • Uttar Pitampura–Prashant Vihar
    • Haiderpur Village
    • Haiderpur Badli Mor
    • Bhalswa
    • Majlis Park

    Engineering Milestone

Gupta pointed out that these corridors are notable engineering feats. A section of the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor rises to approximately 28.36 metres. This makes it one of the highest elevated stretches in the Delhi Metro network.
