Missing Links Push Local Traffic onto the Expressway
The Noida Authority has decided to finish incomplete portions of a 45-metre-wide arterial road that runs alongside the 25-kilometre Noida–Greater Noida Expressway. The move is aimed at easing congestion on the expressway while improving connectivity within nearby residential sectors.
The arterial route, designed as a sector road for neighbourhood movement, has remained partially non-functional due to three unfinished stretches between Sectors 163 and 167. These gaps measure 74 metres, 75 metres, and 81 metres, breaking the continuity of an otherwise fully developed corridor.
Six-lane Road Stalled by Missing Links
Except for the unfinished portions, the road features a six-lane central carriageway with service roads on both sides. The absence of the three links has prevented the corridor from functioning as a complete alternative to the expressway.
Residents from sectors 150, 151, 152, 153, 155, 163, 167, 135, and 168 raised concerns over the incomplete road. They said it has forced them to use the expressway even for short local trips within Noida. This has increased congestion and extended travel times for daily commuters.
Arterial Road to Divert Traffic
Officials confirmed the parallel road was planned to divert local traffic away from the main expressway. The move was intended to ease pressure on the busy corridor. However, the stalled sections have prevented the project from serving its intended purpose.
Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Lokesh M has instructed the civil and land departments to address land-related hurdles that have delayed work on the missing stretches. The issue has remained unresolved due to pending land acquisition concerns.
Conversation with Farmers Soon
According to Vijay Rawal, Deputy General Manager of the Authority, discussions will be initiated with farmers who own land along the unfinished sections. The farmers have been demanding land-for-land compensation within city limits in return for their agricultural land.
Officials said completing the arterial road has become more urgent due to rising traffic at Noida’s entry points. Furthermore, the upcoming Noida International Airport has added to the urgency. The urgency has grown even as plans for an elevated road along the Yamuna embankment continue to face approval delays.
